She prayed for the very sick children so they could get better and come to school. Mary and her sisters never gave up on the children because they loved them for who they were.By Jaimee Maoe

Mary is ExcommunicatedOnce there was a nun named Mary who was excommunicated from the church because she was helping people who didn’t follow God. In her schools rich kids and poor kids sat together because she believed every one should have an education. Soon the church realised what they did was wrong so they brought Mary back to the church.By Adam T

Mary MacKillop creates a school for every childOne sunny day, there was a young girl named Mary. Mary’s family had trouble getting enough food and money. Mary was a compassionate girl and she would do what ever her parents asked when they needed help. One day Mary felt so sorry about the children who never had schools to learn and didn’t know what love meant. She started building heaps of schools for poor children and teaching them about God. A few years later Mary started turning old so she had to go in a wheel chair but she still carried on until she died. Her sisters took over all the work she did.By Aleina Ite

The Faith Filled Journey of Saint Mary MacKillop

Year 7 Ana-Maria, Tupou, Estella, Paulina, Agnes, Doris and Valentina I

It was the year of 1842 when Blessed Mary MacKillop was born.  She was raised by her parents Flora and Alexandra MacKillop.  Mary was also taught by her father because her schooling was often disrupted.  At the age of 14 Mary started as a governess. She left her hometown Fitzroy in Melbourne to begin her career as a governess for her cousins in Penola. While she was at Penola a miraculous event occurred. She had met Fr. Julian Woods.  It was the beginning of her new career in teaching the less fortunate children.  Mary MacKillop and Fr. Woods had established many schools in Australia and New Zealand where they spread the good news.  They worked together with a strong faith and belief in God.  Throughout their journey they were not just helping children.  Mary MacKillop gathered women who were willing to follow God to help everyone in need.  They were named the josephite sisters co-founded by Mary MacKillop herself.  During her journey of faith in 1902 Mary suffered a terrible stroke, but recovered days after.  Then in 1909 August 8th everyone was devastated from the death of Mary MacKillop.  Many memorial services were held in memory of her.  In October 17th 2010 Mary will be announced as Saint Mary of the Cross at her canonization.
