Room 4 are learning about the first people that voyaged to New Zealand in 1000 to 1200 AD and the names first given to Aotearoa. We have read the story of Māui fishing the North Island and then painted Aotearoa so that we can remember place names in Te Reo.  Including Aotearoa, land of the long white cloud; Te Ika a Māui, the fish of Māui; Te Wai Pounamu, the waters of greenstone and Te Pungo o te Waka a Māui, the anchor stone of Māui’s canoe.
